Textiles
Textiles affect everybody in society from the clothes we wear to the PPE we use at work and play to the fabrics and furniture we live with and even the disposable sanitary products that we use in hospitals ,care homes and our own homes.
There are a wide variety of natural and synthetic fibres used across the industry and we should know how these are produced and processed into basic fabrics for both our health and better understanding of how we can fabricate them for the use we intend them for.
The industry of textiles is vast, creative and energy consuming in both power and water. It can also be environmentally damaging from the chemicals used to process fabrics and their disposal.
Some basic fabrication techniques will be learned from simple sewing machine to CAD and CNC controlled embroidery machines. Dying techniques for the creation of a myriad of designs for different fabrics.
